BilVideo.dk is out for a truly amazing and unforgettable co-driver ride in a rare Porsche.
Imagine the sound of a V10 engine singing its high-octane anthem as you whizz across the tarmac at the FDM Sjællandsringen.
That’s what I experienced in 2011, in one of the true icons of the automotive world: the Porsche Carrera GT.
Enjoy the sound of an F1 car (before they changed the engine in 2014) in this Porsche Carrera GT onboard video, which you can watch above.
Performance
- Horsepower: The car has 612 horsepower
- Acceleration: It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h. in 3.9 seconds.
- Top speed is 330 km/h.
Porsche Carrera GT: A legend born on the race track
The Porsche Carrera GT isn’t just a supercar – it’s a driving legend with roots deep in the world of motorsport.
Its story actually begins on the iconic Le Mans tarmac.
In the late 1990s, Porsche was working on a new Le Mans racer.
But when the project was shelved, the engineers were left with an amazing V10 engine and a dream of something extraordinary.
So what do you do?
You build the world’s wildest street car, of course!
The result was the Carrera GT – a car that made even the most seasoned car enthusiasts gasp when it was unveiled in 2003.
With its mid-mounted 5.7 liter V10 monster producing an insane 612 horsepower, it was in a class of its own.
But it wasn’t just the engine that was special.
Porsche used their most advanced technology to create a car that was as much an engineering masterpiece as a driving experience.
The chassis was made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic – a material that was primarily used in Formula 1 at the time.
This gave the car an incredibly low weight and a rigidity that made it feel like it was cut from one piece.
And then there’s the clutch.
Oh, that clutch!
Made of ceramic and only 169 mm in diameter, it was a technological tour de force.
It allowed the engine to run at higher revs and responded with lightning speed.
But it was also notoriously difficult to master – even professional racing drivers had to practice to master it.
Braking in a Carrera GT is like dropping an anchor at 250 km/h.
The car stops almost before your brain has registered that you’ve stepped on the pedal.
Fun fact: Do you know why the Carrera GT has the distinctive tall wooden gear knob?
It’s actually a piece of Porsche nostalgia.
The design is inspired by the gear knobs of the legendary Porsche 917 race cars from the 1970s.
A small but significant touch that connects this modern supercar to Porsche’s rich racing history.
Porsche produced only 1,270 examples of the Carrera GT between 2003 and 2007.
This makes it one of the most exclusive Porsche models ever.
Every car was hand-built at Porsche’s factory in Leipzig, Germany – a true masterpiece of craftsmanship.
Today, the Carrera GT is not only a coveted collector’s item, but also a milestone in automotive history.
It represents the end of an era – the last of the analog supercars before turbo engines and hybrid technology took over.
Driving a Carrera GT is like stepping into a time machine – back to a time when pure mechanics, raw power and driver skill determined how fast you could go.
It’s an experience that gets your heart rate up and leaves an indelible impression.
What other supercar do you think can match the raw driving pleasure and historical significance of the Carrera GT?
Are there any modern cars that can provide the same sense of connection between driver and machine?
In our Porsche Carrera GT onboard video, which you can watch above, we drive at FDM Sjællandsringen in connection with the charity event http://www.sportscarevent.dk back in 2011.
It was an amazing trip and experience.
I hope you like the video.
Even now, years later, I can still recall every detail of that day.
The sound, the feeling, the adrenaline.
It was an experience that defined what true driving pleasure is.
