Ferrari F80: LaFerrari's successor with a V6 engine

The Ferrari F80 is Ferrari's new flagship, and it replaces LaFerrari. The engine is a 3.0 litre V6 with two turbos. It makes 900 hp at 8,750 rpm and 850 Nm at 5,500 rpm. Three electric motors help out, so the car has 1,200 hp in total. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.15 seconds, and top speed is 350 km/h. Ferrari showed the car in October 2024 and started building it in 2025. Only 799 will be made. The price starts at around 3.7 million dollars.

Six cylinders instead of twelve

A cylinder is the space inside the engine where the petrol burns. LaFerrari had twelve of them in a 6.3 litre V12. The F80 has six. That sounds like a step backwards.

It is not quite. The engine in the F80 comes from Ferrari's race car, the 499P, the one that won Le Mans. And the two turbos do some of the work the six missing cylinders used to do. A turbo is a fan that forces extra air into the engine. More air means more petrol can burn. More petrol means more power. The engine is allowed to spin 9,000 times a minute, and that is high for an engine with turbos.

Three electric motors push along

The F80 is a hybrid. That means it has both a petrol engine and electric motors. Two of the electric motors sit at the front, one at each front wheel. The third sits at the back next to the petrol engine.

The battery is small. It holds 2.28 kWh. An ordinary electric car often has 60 kWh or more. The battery in the F80 is not meant to drive far on electricity. It is meant to give a hard push for a few seconds and then fill up again when the car brakes. The two electric motors at the front can send different amounts of power to each front wheel. That helps the car through corners.

All 799 were sold before the car was shown

When Ferrari showed the F80 in October 2024, all 799 cars were gone. The buyers had said yes in advance. Ferrari asks its best customers first, and they say yes without having seen the car. Add options and the price goes past 4 million dollars.

So you cannot walk in and buy one. We cannot borrow one either. We film what we are allowed to come along in, and right now nobody is offering us an F80.

What it means to us

We filmed the LaFerrari Aperta at Gumball 3000 in Copenhagen. We will not forget the sound of that V12. An F80 sounds different. Six cylinders and two turbos give a deeper note, and the turbos muffle some of the shriek.

We do not know whether we will end up liking it. We will only find that out when we hear one next to us. If an F80 comes to Denmark, we will gladly sit in the right seat with the camera. The film goes on YouTube for free, like the others.
