Gumball 3000 participants visit Tivoli, Copenhagen!
We arrive in Copenhagen in the late afternoon. Ready – for when the first car arrives from Bernstorffsgade and turns onto Vesterbrogade to enter the main entrance of Tivoli Gardens.
The arrival of the first cars should be around 17.00-18.00 hours. More and more people are coming.
Outside Tivoli, “El Tempo Gigante” runs tours with people, starting from Axeltorv. A wonderful vehicle from the Bjergkøbing Grandprix movie.
Should we go into Tivoli or stay outside, in terms of when the cars arrive? We choose to go into Tivoli.
The clock is approaching the time of arrival, no cars yet. I ask an amusement park attendant if he knows anything? I am told that the Gumball 3000 participants are not allowed to drive through Germany, but the cars have to go on a transporter and this will cause some delay.
They left Amsterdam this morning and have since been stopped in Germany. I wonder if any of the teams missed out by choosing a different route?
At around 20.00 we can hear cars being gassed up outside Tivoli Gardens to great cheers. Maybe some of them found an alternative route?
Finally – something is happening. The first Gumball cars enter through the Tivoli portal. With the main entrance in the background, a BMW and Ferrari sneak towards the interior of the Tivoli, along a pathway passage with people shouting and flashing lights. In response, the revs are acknowledged, which lifts the mood even more. Now it’s on!
But, but, but, but, the cars don’t come in a steady stream. There are solid breaks between the arrival of the supercars. Time is running out. Looking at the clock, it’s not long until Tivoli closes. How many will arrive before then? It is announced that Tivoli will be open a little extra time for the public.
We leave Tivoli just after midnight to head home. All Gumball 3000 cars have not arrived yet. It can take most of the night before they show up.
The car is thirsty on the way home and we find a gas station. At the gas station, a Gumball 3000 participant’s Ferrari 458 in chrome look and a Maybach. Delicious end to the day/evening.
