Gumball 3000 – Summary from the event 2 years ago in KBH!
When it comes to supercars, the Gumball 3000 is absolutely amazing! There’s one gorgeous supercar after another. And they’re all wrapped in different foil wrapping to add to the atmosphere.
As the Gumball 3000 participants are driving through Denmark in 2015, we have chosen to celebrate this by making a Gumball 3000 movie. The film covers their start in Copenhagen for their 15th anniversary race in 2013.
The first day is arrival day and the opening party day. Day two is the day they leave Denmark for the next country on their route.
Day 1, morning and afternoon:
It is an early Saturday morning, around 9:00. We are close to the town hall square. The first cars are slowly arriving. There aren’t that many people yet, in terms of people watching, but Copenhageners need to wake up first.
It won’t be long before the first supercars such as Ferrari, Jaguar, Porsche, Aston Martin and McLaren show up wearing beautiful creative foil wraps.
Slowly, more and more people are starting to arrive. The combination of the hot cars throttling up in honor of the crowd and the warm sunny weather creates an extra unique and great atmosphere.
More supercars are starting to appear from the likes of Lamborghini, McLaren Mercedes, and Nissan. Special cars also appear, such as a desert racer and a 300-horsepower Fiat 500.
The hot cars keep arriving, such as Bentley, Ultima, Corvette, Koenigsegg, etc.
It’s not every day that Copenhagen fills up with lots of supercars, attracting crowds of people into the afternoon.
Day 1 evening:
Thanks to Betsafe, we got VIP access to the opening party at the Opera House, which was a great experience. We were very grateful for this.
In the Opera House, all the participants were gathered – from actors, singers, oil sheikhs to various rich businessmen. All participants had in common that they could afford to participate and were approved by Gumball 3000 to participate.
Before arriving at the Opera House, they were taken in small groups by a fast boat from the Amalienborg seaside to the opposite side, where the Opera House is located.
Outside in front of the Opera House a few special cars were gathered, such as the Batman car “Tumbler”.
To add to the atmosphere, various well-known Danes were also invited to the party.
The man behind the event is Maximillion Cooper. After some time, he takes the stage and welcomes the Gumball 3000 – the 15th anniversary race from Copenhagen to Monaco! – and all the participants then burst into a huge cheer. There is a great atmosphere.
Then The Cuban Brothers put on a fantastic show with dancing, which was super entertaining.
After that, it was just about partying until you couldn’t party anymore. We left a little after midnight, as we had to get up early the next day to be ready for when the cars left on Sunday morning.
The party continued in the Opera House. From the outside, the Opera House looked great in the dark, as you could see all the “disco colors” inside the glass facade.
Day 2 morning:
It’s around 08.00 and we are at the starting point, which is right by the Town Hall Square. We go for a morning walk and have a look at the supercars. The cars, with a total value of many millions, have spent the night at the town hall square. There were security guards to keep an eye on the supercars.
A crowd slowly starts to appear. Participants also slowly start to show up and start up their cars so they can warm up their engines before setting off. Gumball 3000 participants have to leave in a specific order, so it is important that everyone is there on time.
It starts to drizzle from the clouds and at the same time there is some marathon running on the road that the participants have to go out on. A part of the audience, who also want to be at the Town Hall Square when the cars drive off across the square, is “caught” by the marathon. They will have to wait for the marathon runners to pass by. Fortunately for the “captive” audience, some of the Gumball 3000 participants are a little late. They will therefore make it to the Town Hall Square before the action starts.
More and more cars start up and at the same time it starts to rain more. We are still waiting for simple participants. We are hoping for a break in the weather.
Then it happens. All the participants have arrived, the cars have started and then they drive off one by one, where they are presented individually before leaving the pit area and driving across the City Hall Square and slowly leaving Copenhagen and Denmark.
Some of the cars throttle up to the delight of the audience from home and abroad, who happily braved the rain to see all the supercars.
It was a fantastic event!
