Porsche 997 GT2 RS ride at FDM Jyllandsringen 2014
Just outside Silkeborg is a small town called Resenbro where FDM Jyllandsringen is located, with a lovely view over the landscape. Jyllandsringen has hosted motor races since 1966. Today it's Sportscar Event 2014 on the agenda, raising money for Børnecancerfonden.
We arrive a little before 9 am. It's going to be exciting to see which supercars have shown up. We pay the entry fee and walk over to the parking area, where the supercars are parked along the edge, side by side. Then over to the grandstand to see and hear them drive. A choice has to be made: which car will it be.
Choice made, back to the ticket booth to buy a ticket for a co-driver ride. It ended up being the ultra fast Porsche 997 GT2 RS. A 6-cylinder boxer engine with 700 hp, delivering a 0-100 time of 3.1 seconds.
Now the fun begins. A lovely feeling. There's no queue at the white Porsche 997 GT2 RS with the Michelin man on the side, so the next ride is mine.
The car is fitted with a roll cage and fire extinguisher, which looks good. I open the car door and crawl into a whole other world. Fasten the seatbelt. I'm ready. Hoping my "driver" knows how to handle such a fierce Porsche.
The car is started, we roll quietly out of the parking area heading towards the track. We accelerate out of the track entrance, the way is clear, a left turn and we're on the track. Here you get to enjoy how the 700 hp Porsche 997 GT2 RS devours one corner after another.
We approach a fast Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 and set up an attack right before the back straight. It's overtaken, excellent. Wow, this Porsche 997 GT2 RS is fast! It's a big experience to feel how it accelerates, effortlessly takes the corners, often with a sound from the tyres indicating there's still just a bit of contact with the road.
At the end, there's nothing left to say but thanks for the ride. Yet another great car experience richer.
